Lehr is a professor of journalism at Boston University, where he is a
co-director of an investigative reporting clinic. He is co-author of
the
New York Times bestseller,
Black Mass: The Irish Mob, The FBI, and a Devil's Deal,
which won the 2001 Edgar Award for Best Fact Crime book. The six-time,
Oscar-nominated film director Jim Sheridan is directing a feature film
based on the book in 2009.
Lehr is co-author of
Judgment Ridge: the True Story of the Dartmouth Murders, which was a finalist in the 2003 Edgar Awards for Best Fact Crime book, and
The Underboss: The Rise and Fall of a Mafia Family.
As a reporter with the
Boston Globe,
Lehr, an attorney, was a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize in investigative
reporting and won numerous national and regional journalism awards. He
has been a Visiting Journalist at the Schuster Institute for
Investigative Journalism at Brandeis University and a John S. Knight
Journalism Fellow at Stanford University. He lives outside Boston with
his wife and four children.
